Savory Salty Scones for a Happy New Year!!

Cheddar Dill Scone

We want to wish everyone A Very Happy New Year for 2014 … from Poppies Dough and the Poppies Dough Family. We’ve had a very exciting year, our first in the new location on 35th Street. We’re still working out some kinks, but we love our new digs. Come by and visit our shop, where you can get our delicious treats for your New Year’s celebration. From decadent desserts to mouthwatering pastries, we have what you need to ring in the New Year with style and taste – especially taste!

It looks like we’ll have some pretty chilly temps come the end of this month and the beginning of the New Year, so be prepared. We like to treat ourselves to some comforting baked goodies from the oven to get the chill out of our bones on these cold winter days. There’s nothing like a tray of oven love to make your guests feel welcome and help them thaw out, too.

Usher in 2014 with a celebration of flavor. Our cheddar and dill scones are a wonderful balance of sharp notes from the cheddar and the soft, sweet, bright taste of dill. The scones have a creamy, rich texture, thanks to the Wisconsin AA butter and heavy cream that go into every batch. They are a wonderful element of a dinner or party spread, and pair especially well with soups (anything tomato-based would be a match made in heaven) and seafood. These mouthwatering treats can be scooped to bite sizes, and are great to pop in your mouth as you are ringing in the New Year. And they will be just as delicious the next morning at a New Year’s brunch. Try them with some smoked salmon and mimosas or coffee.

A year doesn’t go by when we haven’t added to our long list of offerings to our customers, and 2014 won’t be any different. Look for a new line of Angel Food Cakes at the beginning of the year. They are moist, tender, and lighter than air. You will love the chocolate and lemon icing options, and the plain Angel Food Cakes offer unlimited choices for flavor combinations. And you can be sure that we will continue to experiment with new recipes and new flavors, so be sure to check the website, sign up for our newsletter, and visit the bakery at 2600 West 35th Street to keep up to date on our latest concoctions.

We have been truly blessed in this last year with wonderful friends and family and the success of our new location. We hope the year has been fulfilling for you as well. With all your planning for holiday celebrations, be sure to take a few minutes out to reflect on the high points of your last year, and don’t be afraid to encourage your family and friends to do the same. It’s a lovely way to make a New Year’s toast a little more memorable.

Sending you the warmest of wishes, and a promising & fulfilling New Year with lots of joy & happiness.
